Kumul Petroleum helps out Nonga Base

Honouring a commitment made earlier in the year Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited has donated vital equipment to the Nonga Base Hospital.

At a small ceremony to mark this corporate support Luke Liria, EGM Corporate Affairs for Kumul Petroleum Holdings said, “We at KPHL are happy to support health services. The donation here today complements the assistance we have provided in recent times specifically for lifestyle diseases, such as heart disease and cancer treatment in both Lae and Port Moresby.”

“I am delighted that the equipment we have been able to provide, worth about K500,000, will be used in the recently renovated emergency department of the hospital.”

Mr Liria explained that equipment donated included an Oxylog 3000 portable ventilator, a Nihon Kohden Defibrillator, a Triage Meter, an ECG machine, a Siemens Ultrasound Scanner, Alaris syringe and  infusion pumps, a Nihon Kohden Patient Monitor, and an EPOC blood testing device. He noted that this type of equipment was vital in the treatment of people, especially in life-saving emergency situations.

Mr Liria continued,“I am aware that Nonga Base Hospital is a referral hospital for other health facilities in the Islands Region, such as Manus, New Britain, New Ireland and the Autonomous Regionof Bougainville. This gives KPHL the satisfaction that our small donation of diagnosis and moniroring equipment will benefit people from throughout this region.”

Mr Liria outlined the fact that despite being generally perceived to be a State owned business  whose main focus was the petroleum sector and downstream opportunities that arose from the domestic downstream utilisation of gas such as power generation and chemical manufacture, Kumul Petroleum had a pipeline of other activities that included industrial fabrication, technical education, support of health initiatives and a range of sporting codes.

Mr Liria concluded, “At KPHL we are keen that our corporate support of specific health services complements the inputs from the National Department of Health and provincial health authorities and is able to plug gaps when these arise.”
