The reform and rationalisation of PNG Power Ltd is continuing, with the announcement today of three executive positions in the company’s streamlined management structure.
They are Mr Mark Greenaway, Chief Technical Officer and Dr Nigel Booker, Chief Commercial Officer. They have been appointed after an independent international search.
After serving as the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Peter Mell has been reassigned to the Chief Financial Officer role.
PPL Board Chairman, McRonald Nale, welcomed the appointments as part of the reform at PPL. “The three (3) officers replace seven (7) positions in our previous structure, and the three bring with them a wealth of corporate and power industry knowledge,” he said.
“These reforms, endorsed by NEC, are essential elements in restoring PPL’s ability to provide reliable and affordable power supply across the country.
“They include wider organisational changes which includes eliminating some management positions, salary cuts to others, streamlining back office and support services, introducing retirement and redundancy packages and beefing up the front line through the apprenticeship and graduate scheme programs”.
“They complement operational measures to stabilise the Port Moresby, Ramu and Gazelle grids.” Mr Nale said further reforms had begun or were in the planning stages.
The management appointees will head three functional units and will report to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Mell is a very experienced finance executive and was an executive at BAT PNG and was appointed PPL’s Chief Commercial Officer last year. His new position as CFO covers Finance, Shared Services, Information Technology, Risk Management, and Human Resources.
Mr Greenaway, from Queensland, has extensive operational and management positions in the energy business in Australia and the Pacific. As Chief Technical Officer, his responsibilities include Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Asset Development, Asset Management, and National System Operations.
Dr Nigel Booker be the new Chief Commercial Officer. Dr Booker will be responsible for Retail, Strategic Business Development and Government Relations, Procurement, and Program Office. Dr Booker is from the United Kingdom and is currently based in Australia.
